I have been in sales recruitment for over 6 years and have met 100's of sales people, some good some bad. I am interested in some feedback on what 3 factors you think makes a good sales person.

I would suggest:

*results driven
*good presentation skills
*enthusiasm

Do agree / disagree? What would you suggest?

Daren

2. Have Great Listening Skills
3. Integrity

You can be the most motivated and enthusiastic person on Earth. And, though they are important, they are not the most important. Though it's important to know your products or services, it's equally important to know their relationship to each other and taking a truly consultative sales approach. That promotes cross selling and meeting revenue targets. Secondly, knowing "what keeps your client up at night" is probably the most overlooked issue by most sales people. If you're client is a C-level executive, that is the issue that should be focused on. For instance, a CEO or CFO of a major account might have some interest in saving money, but their main concerns are often in the area of compliance or meeting deadlines. That's what really keeps them up at night. And lastly is a strong work ethic. Even if you're having a blowout week or month, NEVER stop prospecting, particularly if the products or services that you sell have a long sales cycle. This will help prevent peaks and valleys in your performance.

Strong probing skills, presentation skills, account management skills, territory management skills....

And most important- TO KNOW WHEN TO TALK, AND WHEN TO SHUT UP!!!

I guess there are a lot more than just 3 factors!!!

I agree with all of the above but one of the most important factors in my opinion is a great personality. People buy from people at the end of the day so even the best trained sales rep needs to be able to build a rapport with the client in order to sell to them

I think there are more than three qualities, but I would nominate:

1. A burning desire to close sales
2. Likable
3. Assertive

These are all personal qualities versus sales skills, which is another matter, in my opinion.

Being a good communicator and a team player is also very important.

However I am finding it very difficult to narrow it down to just three factors. you need alsorts of skills, sales and on a personal level to achieve is this profession.

I think the best traits of a good sales person are honesty, integrity and a pleasant personality. If you aren't honest with people you will lose their business. If you don't have integrity and aren't pleasant around people you will never get their business.

Default It's personal qualities that make the difference!

Must be personable and able to get results, that means being flexible and adaptable to the situation.
