Unfortunately its the Arab states deciding how much oil to produce that causes this through OPEC.
Perhaps more political pressure on them would help - but it could also hinder as the region is already unstable.
However I do think that the link between natural gas (not petrol) and oil should be looked at however.
In the UK, there is an abundance of natural gas but heating costs have gone up 30% in the last year. Why? beacuse someone somewhere ages ago when oil and gas were competing fuels for industry decided that it should be linked to the cost of oil.......??? why though???
