I'm preparing a speech with the topic "What do you have to let go of that USED to work but is keeping you from getting to the next level in your professional sales career. I'm not talking about getting a promotion but rather getting to the next level as a sales professional. Would like to collect as many answers as possible. Can you help? Thanks and keep smiling.

Welcome to the forum Richard

One of the biggest things I had to let go of when I moved into sales was my overwhelming urge to be polite. I'm a naturally good natured person and I realised hard and fast that in order to succeed (at least in B2B sales) you have to be a bit hardball.

As soon as you are overly pleasant on the phone, somebody will think "salesman". Whereas if you are assertive at the same time as being civil, you will get a lot more respect from your potential prospect.

Hi Richard,

Another Human on the site yippee!!!!!!

Well the biggest thing I had to let go was my sanity!!!!
I find you have to think on a different level to all the "Normal" folk out there and this I had to catch onto very quickly.
However, I now find that with the "Normal” people I know I'm ahead of the game so much quicker which from time to time can be a bad thing!!!
