Default Small talk can bring in the sale!

Don't ever think that small talk is a waste of time. In fact, you should invest more time in it. When you have better relationships with your customers, you will be the first one that they called if they have anything to buy.

I agree, any salesperson that can create rapport and use small talk to their advantage in doing this is sure to see more sales.

Its right that small talk can bring in sales. But it also depends on which type of people we have small talk with. Small talk also helps us to have a cordial relations with the customer.

I'll agree that small talk is important to a point. However, I've had car salesmen treat me like we've been best freinds for years. I would never buy anything from a person like that.

Default Small Talk

I agree small talk is important. But only in the building relationship angle. I always chatter to clients and it helps - I'm more favoured by them than some of my colleagues but others don't like chit-chat. Its more about reading people and working what will be best to maintain and increase sales etc.

Small talk is very important, as long as it is genuine and sincere. Sales people should be HUMAN with other HUMANS...don't just wear the "buy from me" hat, but wear the "human" hat, too.

It's true that some prospects don't like chit-chat; but often this is a result of fear or anxiety; the best salespeople break down those barriers so that a productive relationship can be created.
