Hi Omar
Speaking as an ex-recruitment consultant, I agree with some of the comments that others have made that not all consultants are bad, and I understand your frustrations - unfortunately you are not alone in your experience. Yes time pressure and the pressure to sell and make commission does exist, but there is no excuse for poor customer service. In my experience, there are a few factors that can lead to this frustration-
A key to working with agencies is how to manage that relationship. Too many job seekers expect too much from the agencies, and to be fair, many consultants do not manage the job seekers expectations well enough, which is actually the cause of most the frustration.
Most recruitment agencies fill vacancies, they do not find you a job. What I mean by that is they work on a reactive basis, meaning, if their client (the employer) has a vacancy and you match the criteria you may be contacted and submitted. Consultants rarely work pro-actively on the jobseekers behalf to find you a job.
At the end of the day, agencies need jobseekers because with out them they do not make placements and do not make fees, but I think that in some cases there is room for improvement within the recruitment industry to make the overall experience better and less stressful for job seekers.
